I have this part under the hood that I can not identify and not able to find a replacement. The plug is a 3 pin plug in. Thank you for your help

I don't think that is an ignition module, I thought that they would have used the normal 5 or 4 pin module. That seems to me to be a part of the SMOG/emissions stuff. Probably need an FSM to track it down, but then again someone here will probably know.

I want to say a voltage regulator, but I think they have a triangle shape plug, not an oval.

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure in 78 they were still using the standard ECU and VR, so that module has to be something else and again, my thought is that it has to do with emissions like a lean burn system or something.

Not being rude, but it seems obvious if the OP doesnt know what it is (or does).... he musta had a hell of a time determining it was bad.

He never said it was bad, just couldn't identify it to find a replacement. Some people replace parts when bringing a car back to life just for insurance.

Out of curiosity, WHY do you want to replace it and reactivate the EGR system? If you are restoring your vehicle to like new appearance, and the existing control unit is non functional, why not just clean it up and reinstall it. Apparently, there is a electrical solenoid somewhere in the EGR valve's vacuum supply line that, this delay box controls. There are several methods to disable the EGR system, yet still appear that all components are present and functional. The early EGR systems were performance crippling efforts to reduce the NOx emissions....stumbling, surging, poor MPG, cold starting issues. Does the state require emission testing requirements? Usually, classic cars are exempted from testing and compliance. Just my opinion of course.

True! I didn’t read the dates. I missed the thread. Owning a ‘79 Magnum, I knew what it was. I also have to agree with Mr. Renton, outstanding! Good find on that thread.
