I have a 69 plymouth satellite 383 auto trans. It has a 8 1/4 rear. Being new to Mopars i still have much to learn but I've finally determined its not the original rear. In the factory manual there is no mention of the 8 1/4 which was my first tip off. I bought another manual and they tell me the 8 1/4 was used in later b bodies. The previous owner had a Galen report and it shows D32 on the fender tag which is for a Torqueflite trans and under that it shows as standard equipment D51 which is the 8 3/4. So i guess while this all does not mean much at least now i know at some point in the cars history the 8 3/4 was replaced with the 8 1/4 at some point

That's what I've heard them called too! My Dad had one when I was a young but his was a 318 powered Sport Satellite. I have a friend who has a 1968 Sport Satellite with a 383/727 combo. Dang nice too!!!! Both were bucket seat and vinyl roof cars.

Sorry it is a Sport Sat. Its a convertible, buckets console must have been a sharp looking car in its day and hopefully just as nice when i finally get it on the road. The motor as i said is a 383 and it has a two barrel carb on it. It came originally with a single exhaust which I'm putting back on. I scored a sure grip 8 3/4 rear with 3:55 gears that maybe someday i will install. thanks

Don't be sorry it's a Sport Satellite! And it's a vert! You should be proud to own this one!!!!

Put a set of 4:10s in that Rear and you will have a really Fun Car for around Town lol. :3gears:

That axle could be original.
My 1970 Charger is originally a 500 model. 318/904. The car came with an 8.25 axle with a 2.71 gear. It measured exactly the same as the same year 8.75 axle in regards to width and spring pad fitment so there was no other car that it could have been in originally. The 71-71 cars used a wider axle. From mid 1969 to 1974, The 8.25 was the default axle for all slant six, 318 and 383 2 barrel engines UNLESS the towing package was ordered. The towing package included the 26" radiator, 7 blade fan with thermo drive clutch, front disc brakes and the 8.75 axle.
The Factory service manuals are often printed early. Some changes occur during a model year, sometimes these changes are long after the service manuals have been printed and sent out.

My 1969 Plymouth Sport Satellite had an 8 1/4" rear when I purchased it. Based on the way it looked when it was taken out, I'm fairly certain it was original to the car. Of course, I'm not the original owner so there's no way to be 100% sure.

I think the differentiation for 383 cars was the carb. Two-barrels got the 8.25, four-barrels got the 8.75.
