It's basically I believe an early CV joint, and just another example of Chrysler engineering success from that era.
Not that they engineered it so much as they made the effort to install it.

No argument there, but I suspect current rubber offerings are a bit more durable, or they could be.

First one I bought was a piece of .... It would tear just trying to install it.

Second one I bought was the wrong size. Ordered one more and three was the charm.
