Just finished up my diff which turned into a full rebuild on the 8 3/4 3.23 peg legger. First i stripped it right down to the bare bones axles brakes and center out cleaned it & primed & painted it in satin 2pack black. The open wheeler center was pulled down and replace with a new Eaton Truetrac LSD center the original 3.23 gears were used as they were in mint condition. The original axles were also reused just replaced the bearings and all the seals and new R/H wheel studs. The brakes were also rebuilt new brake shoes and hardware was used along with the original cast iron brakes cylinders which i had stainless steel sleeved & machined the drums. New brake lines/hose and emergency brake cables & correct u bolts. This all started with I'll give it a quick paint and do the brakes

Very nice
I need to do the same.
Will you add the factory paint markings.

Looks beautiful. And that is called the snowball effect, happens to me all the time.

That looks great. I cleaned up an 8 3/4 3.23 sure grip for my old wagon. Did new brakes and lug studs. Decided to do a little artwork so you can see it when behind the car.

my diff which turned into a full rebuild
Really nice job!!
I love the natural look on the appropriate parts.... I personally don't know how correct it is, but I know they did'nt just paint the whole mess black like most hobbyests too. Did you just spray some clear lacquer on the pig, or was it more involved?? I know the cleaning process for the iron pig must have been pretty involved. TIA, Lefty71

It's correct to some level & no clear on the pig the paint was mixed in 2pac with a flattening base in it giving it the cast iron sort of look

So what's the consensus; soda blasting to remove just the paint or not?

Backing plates should be painted black, but it looks real nice the way it is. Great work.

I thought the same that the backing plates were black but on close inspection they had no sign of paint on them & also due to feed back from other members i came to the conclusion they were a raw metal finish hence the silver metallic paint i tried to mimic raw steel . Thank you for your kind words much appreciated 8 3/4 diff colors
