8 3/4 Yoke

I have a 8 3/4 with 7260 universal with straps. I guess someone broke one of the bolts off and instead of drilling it out they decided to weld the one end of the strap onto the yoke. So I am wondering instead of replacing the yoke , has anyone ever drilled out all four holes and replaced the straps with U-bolts?

Drilled out the threads and used a girdle.....but don't use ones made from aluminum.

Are you thinking of drilling out the four bolt holes in the yoke when still in the car ? Can't imagine that would be an easy task. Not much room, how do do make sure it's square ? Plus you will need to grind off the welded strap. I think I would be tempted to remove and replace the yoke.

There is enough room under there. Drilling out the existing holes would be easy, your just running a bit in the original holes and enlarging them. As for the the broken bolt one ya probably better to remove the yoke and put it in my drill press. Just figure it would be cheaper then spending $150 or more for a new one.

I believe the original bolts are grade "8" therefore you will need a quality drill bit. Maybe tackle that one first.

I'd drill out the holes and use u-bolts, just make sure you get good quality grade 8 u-bolts that fit tight since you don't want any slop in there.

The yoke is high strength but not grade 8.....

lol, i guess if it’s forged it’s even stronger

Is there enough flat surface on the rear side for nuts?
