Hey everyone. My 73 Chargers 904 Automatic Transmission has been leaking fluid for years now because I havent driven it and the other day I went to back in out of the garage but it wouldnt go into any gear. I checked the fluid and it was almost completey out so I put almost 5 quarts in and ran it and tried it again and the shifter shifts into gears, but the car wont move. The parking brake is off, so I dont know why it wont go in any gear so I can move it? Any thoughts?

I had a 727, not sure if it's comparable but we will see.

When I went to buy my car, the guy drained the tranny fluid and forgot about it. We couldn't get the car to move. Put it in nuetral, let it warm up and check the fluid again. If low add.

Otherwise There's something wrong inside the tranny. Not enough pressure, bad band, or the piston that pushes the band is leaking or broken. Check the pan for pieces.

If it's dry you need more fluid I believe it's a 12 qt system

Even being two qt's low will cause it not to shift

/ move

Probably leaking from the dip stick tube and these transmissions are notorious for letting the fluid drain back from the converter back to the pan after sitting awhile. My 97 pickup does it too. If it's done that and leaked it all out, you're probably still low. Just how much fluid is on the floor? Start it up and let it idle in neutral and it'll fill up the converter but it can take a couple of minutes. Check it again after doing that. Don't do it in park because the converter won't fill up in park as no fluid will flow to it.
