727 Shift lever adjustment.

OK I have a weird issue and I think I might know why. If I adjust the shift lever rod for park it wont drop down into 1st. If I adjust it for 1st it wont go into park. I guess my question is is there any difference between a column shifter lever and a floor shifter lever. I mean, are there different versions with different throws? If it were a little longer I believe the throw would have a greater sweep. Am I thinking wrong?

Yes, it would have to be shorter, for the other end to travel further. I've never come across different lengths, but aint sayin they aint out there.

I had to fine tune the length of mine to use the Lokar mechanical shifter I purchased. It is a cut and weld operation.

I was thinking the same thing.. Its just odd that factory parts don't work as they should. The only thing modified is the Lokar style kickdown cable but floor shifter stuff is stock.

There are at least 3 different length factory levers. Also make sure there is no slop in the bell crank bushings.

I feel your pain. I'm dealing with the same issue on my coronet. I'm using a B&M cable shifter, don't think that's the issue. This weeks project, try and fine that happy spot where it all works, or start looking for a shorter lever.

I have tried like 4 or 5 times. To the point I just don't worry about first gear pull. I'd rather it be safe in park.

Put up a WTB ad for the proper B&M lever. Problems will quickly disappear

I believe you need a shorter lever. I see Classic Industries has some listed. Try TCI or any of the other transmission sellers.

Are you talking about this style? I believe the Star Shifter I put in the TA had one of these in the kit. That would be awesome if it fits. And now if I can find it lol.

If that works, let us know. I have one of those crooked levers in a box of hardware, on the shelf. I thought it was for a different trans or shifter set up.
