a cop car mystery...scooby doo where are you?

Guess this is something that guys who collect police cars understand but I don't see how this is a $7500 car, cop car or not.

You can disagree all you like but if you are paying like 3X the value of a car just because the cops used it, well I guess its your money... All I know is I was one of those who ripped the drive trains out of them to use is something else. IMO someone is trying to develop value where it doesn't need to be. Yes, they were many times HP cars (as in high performance) and they had good parts, but they were fleet vehicles that were usually rode hard and put up wet. I could see a little more value than its normal consumer variant but definitely not 3X or more. If all the cop stuff is present or if the car was used by someone famous or involved in a high profile incident, sure all that may add a little value but not what some are asking.

these cars are bringing around 3-5k,and more in vgc.
the guys asking 7500,thats not 3x.
in the condition the car is in,id say 5500 would probably buy it.
which again is not 3x.

the car Does actually have provenance and history, which adds a Lot to desirability.
[ i Loved the reply by Idrivemopar,TY so much for sharing that history as well ]
how many cop car survivors have you seen lately?
how many were 2 doors?
how many were big blocks and still original?

so,while i didnt red x you chall440,i dont agree,
i do think this car is worth a little bit of money and is definitely worth saving in someones collection.
i look at it like this, one mans junk is another mans treasure
:)

I can agree with your logic, I was using the 3X based on a post someone left say it was a 2500 car and then someone posted they were asking 7500 and to be honest the 3X was more of a dramatic statement than one based on facts; so I apologize for being overly dramatic.

I agree that certain cars that served as police vehicles should demand a higher price, exactly which one I guess the hobby will regulate. If it were a 2 door and/or a HP model that was pressed into LE service, that would be cool and probably require a little more $$. We are all clamoring for uniqueness and things that yield value in this hobby and I get that but it seems like it has gotten slightly out of hand in that virtually every car you see has something special or unique about it that supposedly demands more money.

That said, I can say with certainty the I personally would not pay more for a 4 door 75 Fury cop car over non cop car unless there was something on it I really wanted. Now, I realize there are collectors and evidently this has become a "thing", which I guess is cool, just not my thing. I say this, many of those cop cars donated their 440's (and many other motors) for a lot of hot rods over the years.

ty sir,and yes,i understand..
i cringe when i think of how many c bodies we ripped apart and b bodies too,and then discarded.
or of the cars i sold,or didnt buy,or bought and never went and picked up,lol.
literally,i have hundreds of mopars, over the years.

as far as paying more for a cop car version, yes,i would.
everything is heavy duty versus light duty on civvies cars.
its just like buying an R/T charger 440 versus a 318 charger.

what im seeing currently in the market is the late 70-s early 80-s cars coming into their own.
cars the next gen grew up with.
youd be surprised, and probably shocked at what a nice cop car will bring nowadays.
i know i was,lol.

A guy in Vegas re created 3 Adam 12 cars 100%. One was the 71 Plymouth wagon. One 71 Plymouth sedan and the 69.

Saw this beauty at a show last June. Very cool.

I seen this car also at John Quaden show. The only thing I don't understand is if one is pushing that the cars history has significance then why not restore if to originality or close to it. Then the next question is when it comes time to sell is it worth less or more if left alone and original.
