I don't know about anybody else but sometimes I have to do some other kind of project to break up the monotony. I was tired of cleaning tire protectant off my wheels so i decided to make some shields. Body shops have plenty of big sheets of cardboard so I grabbed one and laid out some circles in the diameter of the wheels on my various vehicle. The cardboard I used is roughly 3/16 and it cut awesome with a jigsaw and a metal blade. I sanded the edges with a block and 80 grit to smooth them and make them "snap into" the lip of the rim for a tight fit. After some thinking I came up with using a strip of cardboard folded in the middle to make a handle to hold them aginst the wheel. This I attached to the center with a shot of 3M 8090 spray adhesive. On my magum 500s I still have to cut a center hole for the cap to stick out because for some reason I own 5, 2 1/8" holesaws and not 1, 2 1/4 holesaw! This still cracks me up but our shop helper asked me why I made 2 for each car when I could only do 1 wheel at a time. I looked at him and told him I figured since I had the tools out it only made sense to make a extra one since they were not made to last forever! Common sense is not so common anymore. Anyways after scoring some leftover clear from the painter I gave them a couple of coats each side and Voila! No more cleaning the wheels and I can soak the tires with cleaner or protectant. About 20 minutes for 6 shields. !
