I am in the process of restoring a 69 RoadRunner, A4 silver with performance hood treatment. My question regards the paint- will the old Ditzler paint code be close when mixed in a modern 2 stage paint? Should I take the door in to a place with a camera and have them mix paint based on the area behind the door panel? I am asking because I am having the entire car soda blasted in a few weeks and the old color will be gone then. Any help is much appreciated!

I would mask off a section of the car where the original paint is still evident and doesn't need to be blasted off, like under neath the sill plates or... That way when the body is actually in the paint shop they will be able to color match it on the spot and shoot test samples around the original.

Mopar Bill, as Detmatt1 has said it would be a good Idea to retain a spot with the color that is on the car now. Now,is the color on the car now the original paint or has the car been repainted along the line? That would make a difference in the shade. The converted formula to base/clear will be very close, close enough for a restoration, remember, you are repainting so originality is already gone. One more thing to consider, the camera,or Prophit,as PPG calls it,is not fool proof, sometimes it will grab a formula somewhere in the system that is close to your color...it might be a Chhhevy...color,or it makes it's own formula.I have had it be right on a color match, but most of the time it has been way off. When you get a formula make sure you keep it in your records and some extra paint mixed for the future. The base color will last along time on the shelf, however, with it being silver with alot aluminum in it,just pull it off the shelf every now and then and shake it real good otherwise it will settle in the bottom and get very hard to mix up

A4 is the original color as noted on the tag and it still remains behind interior panels and in the window channels after I pulled the glass. It was painted a 7 color lacquer job in the 70s and primed over before I got it. I took plenty of pictures wherever I found silver, but I will get the entire car blasted to keep any rust from coming back.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll keep an area that was behind a door panel intact to make sure the paint is close.

Boy that's a tough call. Spray some test panels and you still won't know until the paint is laid down. There are 2 A4 cars being built in my area and both look different. I don't know what brand each are but one is more green than the other. Both are cool colors though. tmm

It might be the lighting or camera but the dodge looks much greener. Are they real A4 cars? The plymouth looks very nice!

Both are A 4 cars and I have to apologize for the poor cell phone shots. The Coronet was a surprise. I went to pick up a k member and there it was. It looked more green to me also. Different paint brands will give you different shades of the same color for sure. The Road Runner looked green under florescent lights and silver in the sun. Both cars looked great with Magnum wheels and the Coronet had a black vinyl top. tmm

Getting closer to be completed. Just a couple of bugs to work out. I only have cell phone shots but it's a real pretty car. It is so close to the color on my Dart I am thinking pretty serious about using this color. tmm

depends on the mixer as well.
I've had Y1 mixed 4 times at 2 shops and all three different.
One is REAL close, and next time I'm gonna color match that.

I'm loving this thread. Any updates on your car MoparBill or do you have any on that awesome 68 RR toolmanmike?
