I have a A833 O/D trans, and would like to use it in my 67 satellite with a 440. my question is how strong are they? will it live behind the big block?

They have an aluminum case so you might give up some strength there, but if you want it for a driver it should live. One thing to note, and you probably know this, is the OD does not pass through like a regular tranny. This can be a limiting factor in terms of max torque capacity in high gear because you are relying on the cluster gear to transfer the torque.

Seems to me I read something about working on the case for the bearings. I guess this is the week spot on the case.......

The OD is like driving a 3 speed with OD. The gear ratio spacing isn't that good. If you just plan on driving, it will go for tens of thousands of miles (if it's in good shape to begin with). If you plan on thrashing on it with clutch dumps, speed shifting and burnouts... Plan on having problems.

Does yours have the Cast Iron or Aluminum Main Case?

The majority of them were aluminum case transmissions. The iron versions are out there though. I just sold one recently. The aluminum cases can be improved to increase durability.

it is the aluminum case unit. I may just look for a std A 833, and put the o/d int my sons 74 dart, he has a 440 also but it is much more mild.
