A903 synchro problem

Hi folks. Just pulled the trans out of my 63 Savoy because of 2nd gear trouble. It's supposed to be an A903 trans and it looks like it is but the 2-3 synchro is not what it's supposed to be. The A903 and A745 had a ring and pin type synchro. Mine has a regular brass ring type synchro assembly in it. Does anyone know if the A903 and A745 were upgradable to a newer synchro? Thanks, Wally
