My first post, even though I have been checking in since November. Lots of good help already, even though they weren't my questions. So thanks already for that.

I just finished my year long project of fixing the original air conditioning in my 69 RR. Money and time slowed me down, but I managed to get by without replacing anything inside the car.

Anyway, I am definitely not an AC guy, so I am hoping someone out there can help with the final stages.

I have a constant pressure, so leaks are not an issue.

I put in an 8 oz. can of oil, and there was an additional 1/2 or 1 oz of oil in the first can of freon. I put in three cans of freon, but I am not sure how much the third can was used. The pressure was approaching what I perceive to be the stop level (past that and the gauges told me to "retard")

I did a test run, and it is blowing 53-54 degrees.

I am worried that there may not be enough oil. I cannot drain the freon and check with the dipstick, a process that is outlined in my shop manual.

The manual does say that the original compressor came with 9-10 ozs. of oil, but apparently there could be more in the system. I want to put in another 2 or 3 ounces, but I have no idea how to do that.

Anyone have any suggestions?

This may not help, but when I did my time at the auto parts stores, we were always told the oil in the new compressors was nothing more than something to keep it from rusting while sitting on a shelf. It was supposed to be drained and refilled with the proper amount prior to installation. Any one else have some input?

I hope that is not the case b/c that would throw a big monkey wrench into the system...I think. I wonder if you can have too much oil??? It seems like the stuff just gets passed around the system and might only take up room where the more effective freon could be. But I am just rambling. I really have no idea.

the correct process included with putting oil in the compressor would also be to add oil in the bottom port of the condenser and it will suck the oil up through out the system i just attended an automotive a/c class last week.

condenser or compressor?

did you mean add the oil to the bottom of the condenser or compressor? i am hoping compressor b/c that is where i put it.

Usually, 8 - 10 oz. is sufficient... i've only seen some large dual-zone systems or large vehicles use 10-13 oz.
