Another question. What did the 383 come out of? Is the water pump housing the same, and with the same casting number, as the original housing from the 1964 model 361? Is it possible the WP housing is from a different year and / or maybe a C body? Possible a different WP housing is a bit different thickness? And again, does the alternator line up with the WP or the crank pulley? This is a mystery we need to know the answer to.
