Ok, so I have this 66 Coronet 500, 383/4sp console car. NO motor, SOLID car..
???? Do I sell it back to my friend and buy a 66 Coronet 440, 383/4sp BENCH SEAT, RUNNING, DRIVING, magnum 500 rims for $6500.00
What are the differences between the 440 & 500 models and which car will be worth more if I loose my job and need to eat.. neither has the orig. motor but the 500 is a REAL BIG BLOCK 4sp
Depend what you want, how much you have to dump into it.
For me, I wanted to be cruising ASAP on a limited budget, so I brought something that was missing the engine only. Then brought the engine and most of the parts needed to finish and then ran out of cash! lol
My point is, if your tight on cash and want to drive the car this year / early next year, buy the runner and slowly clean it up into what you want. If your prepared to slowly work on a project keep the 500.
Thats my thoughts. If it was me, depending on my budget, I'd buy the runner and enjoy it while I brought bits and pieces to turn it into exactly what I wanted. I've done too many projects and am sick of having cars in pieces that I can't enjoy.
Ok, I should clarify, we have a 71 barracuda vert, #s 318/904, sub-lime, sure-grip 323 that we drive the **** out of whenever there isn't a chance of rain...un hooked the wipers to make sure we wont be tempted..
We want a BAD *** big block 4sp... BUT if we need to sell something it wont be that green car SO we need to buy something that will have "salability" if we need to make a quick sale
Didn't the 500's ONLY come with 383's or HEMI's no other motor option?
The market is really soft on the 66 cars!Wouldn't be much difference in value, only if someone wanted a bucket seat car!The 500 has a little more value. So it is really you decision on which one you desire! BTW the 500 is a low production number,I have one also there were only 373 built with the 361BB and 4spd.
factory 383 is worth more.
(all 383 engines in 1966 B body cars were 4 bbls)
Any date correct 383 is "the original" engine
361-2bbl 4 speed is more of an anomaly, and is interesting and apparently more rare, but the 500 trim 383 car will be and is worth more, with the immediate extenuating circumstance that the 361 car is running and driving.
