I bought a four-quart Moldone oil pan and another makers' pick-up tube.
However, the tube holds the pan up to about three-eighths of an inch and about two inches to the rear of the engine, the strainer hits the oil pan. The pickup tube thread is a half-inch and fine thread, not a pipe thread. Is there something wrong with the pan or the pickup tube? Could I shorten the tube and rethread it? Finding a dye that size maybe a problem but I did find a twenty-eight thread one used in gunsmithing. Probably just call it an experience and buy a tube from Moldone.

Many Thanks

I wound not take a chance on that, buy the right one .

Call Milodon with the pan number and ask for the correct pickup tube. If you bought the pan used, the part number is usually etched into the pan somewhere.

i'll bet you got one of those tubes with chinese pipe threads?

I heard that they will purposely making them long back when I was installing one.

The thread on the tube from the factory and original factory replacement is NPS, not NPT. It is a straight thread. Some after market suppliers use NPT. Using NPT will increase the chances of cracking the block.

I've shortened pick-ups before, but wouldnt bother if I could purchase the right one.
