Alabamians will be getting new tags upon renewal starting in January. Two employees in the tag office let me pick out some for my renewals come May of 22.

They are safely put away in a desk until my renewal.

You're lucky to be allowed to do that.

We have to take the next one of the top of the box. So when I was waiting for a plate to come up, I had to buy the previous one, then I could buy the one I needed for my GTX. I had 2 sequential plates for a while. It took a while to track down the store that had the plates that I wanted.

Could you have your plate personalized?

I kept my personalised plates "44O" and I still have "REDWGN"

I opted for generic serial plates that just get printed every day.... "GZP43" and GZP44"

Those are cool. My parents had a Toyota van, what model of Toyota is that?
1998 Hiace...4-cyl, 3.0 litre diesel.

Suits me perfectly for work. I don't need a new van.

We in Virginia get to run year of manufacture plates on our collector cars. Register once and permanent.. Pretty cool, that back in the old days, a new plate was issued every year. The colors alternated with black on even number years and white on odd number years. But the numbers remained the same. I still have my Dad's old 1970 plates in case I ever get another 1970 car.

Ditto in TN. We're allowed to register any (not already in use) year-specific original tags as well.

Same in Arkansas - one time fee for life. Just have annual property taxes and insurance to pay.
We don't have annual "personal property tax" on vehicles, either.
You pay sales tax when you apply for title/register and that's that for taxes.
