I bought a jeep few months a go. It has fuel injected Chevy engine and dodge tranny .my problem is identifying the tranny that's in it, and diagnosing my current problem with it. Every single gear I put it in is drive even park. But park holds it from moving. I was thinking valve body issue or an internal leak. Also the aka kick down is not hooked up . how would I be able to accomplish thatwith Chevy set up.

Forgot to add I drove it out to the country yesterday and tried the put it kreverse while I was moving trick. It did go into reverse than. It lock the tires up like it went into reverse but when I gave it gas to go backwards it just sat there like I was holding the brakes on. Once I let off let it sit it would move forward instead of backward . Also it would go into neutral while moving down the road but at a stand still it would be a drive gear. Is just weird to me any help would be appreciated.. transmission pan has 14 bolts 904 shaped pan but a 727 looking case

I had a tranny that tried to drive in park, had no reverse and drove in neutral. Interestingly the day before it was fine. I drove it like that for two weeks or more and one day it fixed itself. True story.

A 904 and 727 have different pans and cases. I never tried to put a 904 pan on a 727 or vice-versa but I suppose some people out there will try anything. Also, 904's are only for small blocks and 6 cyls (no big blocks).

you put the tranny in reverse as you were driving forward ????

Sorry didn't specify.I was on a gravel road where the tires could slide free. And the transmission was already screwed up when I tried that. Some one told me to try it that I may have a stuck piston. I took the pan off today and seen all bands where loose and I think I have a check ball missing or I lost it. How do you adjust the bands

Head to the top of this 'engine' section, and find a sticky all about automatics.

Your forward clutch pack is "welded" together, ordinarilly these frictions would be free wheeling in Park, neutral or reverse but when they burn together you get forward in every gear, acts like trans brake in reverse because both elements are applied.
