Alternator not charging

Just installed new engine wiring harness and procomp HEI distributor in my 1969 Satellite with a 318. I removed the ballast resistor and jumpered the connections per the instructions and also replaced voltage regulator with a new electronic one that looks stock. It started right up but alternator isn't charging, I OHM'd out the wires to the alt. and everything checks out. There isn't a short across regulator but not sure what I should see when I check with my meter. I connected the brown and blue wire of the ballast res. so that it goes directly to the voltage regulator IGN side but there is a short blue wire that is on the same plug as the brown wire with a round connector with a "D" shaped opening, that looks like it should go to the (+) side of the coil? See photo, should the blue wire be connected to the coil? Is it even used? I have it going to the coil right now and I think it may be my problem? HELP!

Do you have a newer alternator? You need 2 field terminals at back of alternator when using the newer style regulator.

Yes I have a newer style alternator with two field terminals. The new wiring harness from year One only has one FLD lead going to the alternator from the regulator. Does it just require the two FLD terminals or should they both be used? Does it matter which FLD terminal I connect the regulator to? Thanks

the feild wire is normally marked as"f" on the alt.have you had the alt tested on a bench just to make sure it works seperate of the car?

Ok, you need to be hooked up to both field terminals. The center most terminal on the regulator will go to the field terminal closest to the big battery wire post. Also you need voltage to this wire with the key on.
The other terminal on the regulator goes to the other field terminal.
Make sure the regulator is mounted good. It's case grounded. So if it is mounted on a painted surface, that could too much resistance to complete the circuit.

Grounded unused FLD terminal on alternator and everthing is working as it should, thanks for all the help!

Carry around a spare distributor; those ProComp distributors are failure-prone Chinese junk.
