The lower bracket that holds the alternator (69 sat)one end bolts to were the motor mount is. I took pictures of how it was assembled but no matter what the alternator, were the bolt holes are on the bottom does not fit up against the bracket. There is about a 3/8 space. Is this right? Am i missing a spacer?
Thanks

In other words if i bolted the thing up the bottom bolt could not hold the alt tight as it is to far away from the bracket

There is a spacer in between the bracket and the water pump housing. Question: big block?

Sounds like you are missing the small lower spacer shown in the pic from Pop. The alternator bolts don't go into the motor mounts.

The car is a factory AC car,my mistake for not saying that. The bottom alt mounting bracket has a arm that bolts to the "boss" on the block were the motor mount bolts goes through. As far as i can see and i did take pictures everything is as the way it was before. Whats happening is the alternator does not fit snugly up against that bracket and i can't see why. There is about a 3/8 space and i don't remember if there was a spacer there and i dont have one either. Thanks again

BTW the photo pops posted is for a non AC car

never seen a factory alternator bolt to a motor mount on any car....

STEVE, look at this pic. As I said, there is a spacer between the lower bracket where the bolt goes into the wp housing. The arm is where you loosen the bolt to adjust the alt belt tension. There is nothing that goes on the motor mount.

Steve do you know what and where the motor mounts are?

No way they are involved

the bottom bracket that holds the alternator on a 69 plymonth sat with air has a part of it that bolts to the boss part on the block were the motor mount is. I have the picture of it before i took it apart. Its a factory AC car

Pops do you have a picture like that except its a factory AC car

Steve is correct in saying on a '69 AC car the bottom alt. bracket on one end does bolt to one of the motor mount ears on the block. Here is a pic of my 440 '69 GTX with AC.

line up the belts and use spacers(if needed)to line up the brackets after that.easy to miss stack the brackets and cause misalignment.

yea, me either...I have never seen that type of alternator mount on any 69 engine

Me either, but I have never owned an a/c either. See how smart we all get for hanging out on FBBO :headbang:.
