Another 318 3 on the tree 66 Charger surfaces

That's got a bit of rust ,just imagine what he didn't take pictures of!

Thanks for sharing I got excited till I saw the rust

Thank you for sharing this! Though the rational is quite odd, this is the first vehicle I have seen that had the console with no shifter handle poking through it. This one has the block out plate. I have only ever seen this in the factory service manual.

The current price of $3,550.00 is top dollar for that fungus & tetanus encrusted heap.

The rational was simple. The console was standard in all chargers that year. The base engine and trans combo for a 66 Charger was 318 3sp Columb shift. My son has two console top plates with block offs in them

That doesn't answer the question of why you could NOT get a floor shifter on a 3 speed manual trans, or a four speed manual trans in any small block B body Mopar until 1971.

Maybe the shifter location would be too far forward?

The transmission is the same, and they had 4 speed big block combinations available in B body cars.

The 3 and 4 speed are the same?
No. The 3 speed was shorter.
There were also some three speed transmissions that had no mounting place for the shifter. On B/E & truck and vans, there were often 2 shifter locations on the 833 and 833 O/D.

No, I meant the four speed trans is the same as used on a small block and a big block.

I remember seeing a 66 Satellite in a junkyard many years ago with a 3 on the tree and the console block off plate. Only one I have ever seen in 40 plus years of playing with Mopars. I also had a rare one once. 67 Chrysler Newport with a 383, 3 on the tree. That car had a little medallion plate on the dash where the PRND21 indicator usually goes.
