I ran across a guy today that wants to sell me a 1974 Charger SE. It has a 440 in it that appears to have been modded up at some point with an air gap Edelbrock intake and aftermarket valve covers. Has a torque-flight trans and unsure of the rear end but probably not posi. Engine is not original (was a 400 ci) and the car has not been on the road in probably 10 years (he said they poured gas in the carb about two years ago and the engine fired right off). The body is fair with a few rust through spots in the quarters and one jamb. Interior has buckets and console but is pretty well shot. Rear floor pans rusted through. Rats have had some major events in there over the years.
This body style is butt ugly in my opinion with the louvered rear windows and the big ole rubber pads on the bumpers. I would like to have the engine out of it but I think I would probably then be stuck with a body that nobody would want to buy.
Does anybody restore these cars? What do you think I should offer him for it?

Number 1...No Posi in Mopars...LIMITED SLIP

Number 2, in my opinion, sounds to me like it was someone's "Beat and Bang" hot rod.
A pieced together "Redneck with out a clue" Hot rod....
Not worth the money to restore, considering floor pans and rust are prevalent.

Sorry, but I think you should "Move On" and look for something that will "hold" the money you invest into it.

And, in my opinion, a Great body style..

Thanks for the reply Bee. I failed to mention that I wanted the engine for my 66 Belvedere. Not at all interested in restoring the Charger. He wants $1500 for it....

I'll see if I can get some. Long way to ship one from LA (Lower Alabama) to Mass!

I wouldn't mind having the car myself, money is short and getting one hear ive been thru... Thanks for the posting..

Do you have any pics of the charger I'm down in fl I could use a good parts car if the price is right let me know

I called him and he said he would send me some pics from where they moved the car from MS to its present location. If he does I'll post em...

He sent these. I told him I needed more.....

Yeah I deff need more pics then that . How much is the motor worth to you? So I know how much were talking for a parts car .
Is he firm on the price ?

And where is the car exactly so I know how far I have to go to pick it up ? I'd assume it would be from your place after you get the eng pulled. It looks like I can work with it between my two chargers looks like it would be help full
P.mms and we can talk some more

DSC00712 (1).jpgThe radiator shown is no longer there. I believe most everything else that is missing is stored inside the car.

I would offer the guy $1,000, pull the engine, trans, and front seats, then sell the body for $900, the trans for $100, and the seats for $200. That would get you your 440 for free and with a couple hundred to boot.

I'm kind'a thinking the same thing Bruzilla. I need some bucket seats for my 66 Belvedere but I don't have any idea if I could make these work in it. Plus I don't know how hard it would be to get rid of the body...

Those quarters, rear window area and deck lid look awfully clean.

How's the cowl and fenders? Just saw fender actually look pretty good. Hard to find them clean.

What was original motor 4 or 2 barrel?

Title?

I just added everything up from my 73 Charger part out, and with the last sale, I've officially doubled my money...

...and I still have a TON of parts left to sell including a running engine with a 4 barrel.

Not to mention stuff I'm keeping like the power windows and cassette recorder pod.

Y, thanks for the reply. I'm not sure about the original carb. Bottom of both quarters have some rust but not bad. Hood and fenders are good. Grill parts are good. Cowl good I think.

Does have the title but it shows 1973 instead of 74

Your info does give me a little better feeling about buying the car. When you say you doubled your money I have to ask....did you pay around the same as this guy is asking?

I think your all freakin nuts myself, that's a pretty damn nice car for $1,500 and the 3rd Gen Chargers look sweet fixed up. I'd buy it in a heart beat if I had the money

Well, maybe im a bit crazy but i really do like the body style!!! and that isint a bad price where i come from...

I agree it looks totally saveable if the title is good.

Check the title and the VIN on the dash and the rad support and/or firewall.

I paid $650, but the car had totally rotten quarters, rusted roof, cowl, fenders and floorboards, and the middle of the trunk floor cut out.
Plus it was a 318 car.
