Hey guys odd ? I know but I've been taking in ducks left and right then they do the dirty and poof mire ducks ect. Anyways I recently got 5 ducks from tractor supply they came in as damaged goods stuff fell on the ducklings hurting them . I opened my mouth one day telling them how to fix one I saw .... they said we're just going to brake the necks of the hurt birds unless you take them. So I took 5 damaged birds .one died from a neurological seizure, the rest healed up good except for one his name is pippy. His right leg just wouldn't fix itself I'd get it close and it would go back off to the side ... he wouldn't walk on his own so I was going to put him down . Then one day he started hobbling very good so I did ducky therapy with him and he got stronger and faster things were going great till yesterday he didn't want to walk in from swimming so I figured he was just tired I carried him in and that was it well today he didn't want to walk out or swim so I looked at him closer and I believe his good leg is dislocated not sure how or what happened . Anyways is there any bird experts on here that could walk me threw putting it back into place . I believe the way he walks he may have pulled on it just a bit to much . I rather help him but if it's free or extremely cheap he's a pet not live stock but I know s it happens I'm fairly good with vet stuff but I've never worked on birds before . And most vets in my area won't touch a duck they say kill it and get another one ! The picture of the brown duck / his leg is in it so you can see how much weight he's putting on the good leg ! I can make him a cart with wheels but I want to atleast fix him first before I waist my time . He doesn't act like he's in pain ether

None? Oh well we're at the local vet now one out of about 30 said they would look at him ! Wish him luck if it's dislocated it will get fixed if it's broken he turns into dinner! I'm not very hungry so let's hope for option one!

That's cool what your doing.
I raise livestock and on a weekly basis am forced to euthanize animals. It's never pleasant.

he dislocated his only good leg ! They got it back into place and he's bandaged up . I am now in the process of designing him a scooter of some sorts with off road tires that should keep him from pulling it out again! Duck now has a vet tab at $195.00
I felt bad for him ! He does hang out with me like a reg bird he will ware his diaper and sit in my lap like a dog he's turned into a house bird mostly so maybe he will just hang around inside with us !

That's pretty cool. Ya gotta post pics ofnthe duck buggy

I will I thought to just get him an off road r.c. car but that might be a little rough on him the all terrain swivel casters I'm looking at are 6" tall the ducks legs are only 2.5-3" so I have to build it around/above it to let him be able to reach the ground I can get chair swivels that are 2" but then he's not off road capable !

OK here's our x rays from today ! The left side looking at it is his org problem leg it isn't the problem the right is the good leg but dislocated ! You see how the right one looks that's what the left should look like but god knows what tractor supply did to this poor duckling ! But at the very top of the right side you can see the bone not touching! He is doing extremely well tomorrow I have a huge car show / car giveaway at the local car museum! Richard ralings gas monkey will be here and we're giving away Alice coopers green 70 challenger to raise money for Alzheimer's! But after that I'll be making and fabbing a duck buggy!

Then the last picture is him with his big friend hemi the puppy!

Cool project, you're a good & animal loven' dude Bb70charger500

Ducky walker/scooter is basically done I need some hardware and some carpet or something to line it with ! I test fit the bird it's perfect now all we need to do is wait till his bandages get to come off to see if I did good !

does he swim , you might want to test its floatiness and maybe add some foam. we had ducks ,horrible wilful things

I'd like to see something that curves with his body. Maybe like an old directors chair made of aluminum fuel line, so it's light and the chair part sagging a bit so it curves with his body and spreads the load but not squeezing him and restricting breathing.

He can float around in the pond and with the help of my leaf getting net it gets the duck back to me and I will put him in his scooter ! With his org problem of a bum leg this is what we had to do minus the scooter I would just put him with the flock and he would hobble around .

Just to close this out if anyone was wondering my little duck was put down today! His leg re dislocated again the vet put it back in and it popped right back out. Then a few mins after the poor bird started screaming and getting frantic with the pain so the vet gassed him to calm him down and I gave the go ahead to put him to sleep. It's not fair for him to be in pain ,hell if they would put me down I would go for it with the amount of pain I'm in! Poor pippy r.i.p

It is extra hard to put down a pet from something like this when they are in otherwise good health.
The only plus is they would not live a good life under the great stress--trying to be what they are born to be.

What Wsj23rt makes alot of sense! I always thought when no first got him as a baby what kind of life could he possibly have . They are free range when someone bus out with them if not they have a big 24'x15 ' enclosure that is chain link with a roof so they prefer it in there since they know it's 100% safe but before I would have to get pip in and out of the pond move him in the yard in the house ect but he was getting better hobbling around so he started getting around better so I figured maybe this could work. I did ducky therapy with him for walking every day he got better and better he walked farther and farther we would sit on the couch and eat lunch after our therapy . He was the greatest duck I've known and he is and will continued to be missed!
People called me stupid or crazy for spending money on a duck to get it fixed they say just kill it and buy another one! They don't understand these animals have really turned into my children! I prefer animals over human's any day of the week!
