My seat started splitting recently in my 69 and I was wondering if anybody ever had any luck with a repair job on a seat...can't decide if I want to try to find somebody who can fix it or just replace the cover.

I was a bit shocked at the prices of the new covers and I wonder how well they really match the rest of the original interior.

Also, and keep in mind I am sorta new at the Road Runner thing, but are the covers for the 68 the same as the 69...I was having a hard time figuring out which ones I need on the Classic Industries page...the 68 looked more like what I need.

I have really only ever done custom interior stuff on hot rods in the past, trying to figure out this original stuff is killing me LOL.

Usually the only option to get a tear/rip repaired in a seat cover is a good automotive upholstery shop. Check with any local custom shop in your area.
good luck

Can't tell by looking at the pics, but if the threads have merely broken without splitting the seat material you could probably remove cover and resew. If the threads have ripped through the material the only choice that I know of is to replace panels affected with matching material or get new covers.

I have repaired a split seam on my rear seat by removing the cover and re-sewing it over about an 1/8 inch further in. It worked fine and looks fine but my rear seat is never used. It would probably work on the front seat OK but no promises. Also, a replacement panel could be sewn in to replace the ripped side, if you or a trim shop can locate some material that matches well. Or replace the covers.

I cannot tell from the photos, they are not large enough or in focus enough..But..

If the sewn seam is ripped you could ask an upholsterer if they can insert a piece on the backside of the vinyl, that will strengthen the area and allow them to resew. Chances are though, this is the start of the rest of the seams to go..I would consider the Legendary interiors as a replacement.
