Anybody ever sound-insulate a room?

If you're doing drywall
best to have an air space like an 1" between wall or ceiling layers
'framed out' 2x wood or 20ga. steel
& not touching either surfaces,
put drywall & fire tape it, on both sides of both surfaces
so it would NOT have any vibrations, carried over into another room or wall/ceilings
that's how we did do partition walls, a few ceilings too, in housing/apartments
or townhouses/condos etc.
add a lil insulation blown in or 6" R30 or R60 bats, if you got room
so sound won't travel between units
it works,
but takes away some room space
