Happened in Metro Detroit. I am hearing the throttle stuck open. Not sure on injuries. I hear no deaths.

I always run a backup return spring; one inside the other........ my AMX had 4, 2 on each carb. I even use a "keychain" ring at both ends as an added safety....... there is no good reason this should ever happen; it comes down to either negligence, inexperience, incompetence, or any combination of the 3

I'll go with inexperience and incompetence, if the "shop owner" is younger than 40

Throttle stuck and brakes failed and emergency brake failed and ignition key failed to turn off and the vehicle hit more than a tree.

How fast does one need to go in a customer car for a test drive?

Someone's got some explaining to do.

dual, dual return springs with added safety rings......... get some......... along with a clue

you left out "throw it in neutral"........someone is either stupid or lying

I've said this before, when are carb manufacturers going to add a return spring to the actual carb?

FiTech did it, return springs are on the butterfly shafts, and they work great.

No need for multiple return springs in all directions getting stretched out, caught on stuff, generally in the way.
Really cleans things up.

I would think carbs would have this modern marvel in 2025.

Looking at you Holley and Edelbrock.

agree.....but the more I think about it; I believe someone is lying in this particular instance

I'd like to see the couple hundred feet, direction of travel, before the accident site.

MY 70 6pk gtx had the throttle stick WFO. Reach down and click it off. Scary ride, but, no panic. One of the few good things my dad taught me from driving/racing.

See the Famoso accident posted on FABO. Same thing. Car appears to run quite a distance killing 2-3 cars.

Just saw this on FB. Driver lied probably and was out and FAFO. He was hauling *** and lost control.

That's good to know about the Fitech. I have dual quad Fitech fuel injection on my Hemi.

Sad to see the loss of the Coronet R/T! People who don't know how these cars behave have no business driving them fast!

I cringe when someone posts a ridiculous "very common knowledge" question.....

guys with zero mechanical skills or experience have no business in an old car....... these are no longer "factory set up" so a woman can drive; they have all been fudged and altered in some way....... an understanding of how things work is imperative!

modern cars are drive by wire, made for the generation who cannot read a map .......... our cars are springs, cables, and levers......there is no touch screen

Glad everyone survived. Hate it happened to really cool ride but I can't help but put a shopping list together from what I see left.

Agree 100%. I refused to sell my 71 cutlass Supreme way back in my college days to a high schooler with no dad at home. Told him and his mother point blank he couldn't handle or maintain the car

honestly, this thread pisses me off......... someone spent a lot of time and sweat at some point, only to have it all go to waste in a second
