My little boy jammed on it and not it's broken. I have bought a replacement from Rock Auto, but my repair guide is not as obvious as I apparently need. I've removed the horn switch components and the lock nut. Do I need a steering wheel puller? I don't want to pull anything apart that I shouldn't and when I put it back on, I don't want to break anything putting it back on. My car is a 1971 plymouth Satellite. basic column shift.

Leave the nut on by three or four threads. Move your seat up, get your knees behind the wheel, grip both sides and pull. Rocking back and forth with pressure from your knees behind it. If that doesn't work you'll have to get a puller. Auto parts stores have them. Buy, use and return for a refund!
Oh, disconnect battery first!

Good luck!

Ok. You'll probably need a puller, although I've removed a few with just a tug. Note the spline indicator on the wheel and the shaft. Unscrew the turn lever. Unscrew the 3 screws on the cam.

Yes, you will need to pull the steering wheel. It's super easy, and you can rent the tool for free at any autozone opr most other auto parts store. Once the wheel is off, is memory serves, theres just a few phillips head screws and a little metal plate to pull off. There mare by an outer retaining ring involved, too. So you MAY need snap ring pliers.
All in all, yes, pull the steering wheel, and once you get it off, it will be obvious what you need to do to replace the signal cam.

what about putting it back.

Push it on until you can start the nuts on the studs...again, make sure you line up the 'master' spline on the wheel with the column)...may need a 'tap' from a BFH to set it (wrap the hammer in a thick towel). Then tighten the nuts until tight.

what about putting it back.
screw the cam in, along with the plate and then the lever. Line up the splines and instal the wheel with the washer and nut. Reinstall the horn and pad.

I have a nice chipped front tooth to prove it's not a good idea to remove a steering wheel by pulling really, really, hard. :) You're better off getting a puller.

ok, my problem is that I put it back on and the horn comes on every time i attach the battery. I need a diagram to see what I'm doing wrong. any ideas where I can find one?

Got it off, put it back together and now the horn doesn't work. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
