Anyone ever fix the clocks on our 66 chargers?

Mine doesn't work all the time. I wouldn't feel comfortable tearing into it because its electroluminescent.
JC Auto Restoration has pricing on clock conversions. Do all your hands light up? One of the hands on mine doesn't light.

Both of mine still work.....and from what I hear, the hands won't light up if you do the quartz conversion

Generally, what happens to them is they get dirty and the contact points get burned a bit....kinda like the old points ignition. The way they wind up is as they tic down, a set of points come together and it creates a direct short and it makes the points open up and thus winding the clock. Yeah, it's a ticker clocks just like the old wrist watches. Pull it out and open it up and you'll see it. I have a rallye clock from a 70 Challenger sitting on my bench and used to have it hooked up to a battery but used the battery for something else many moon ago. The clock is pretty dirty now but it still works but I'm not sure if there's a way to adjust the speed...

Mine in my 67 has only worked off & on for about 6 or so years. With all the other things I have to do I havent messed with it yet.

I was looking at the dealership data book on the Hamtramck website. It says by turning the clock ahead it will speed up the clock and turning it backwards will slow it down.

That's also interesting Bryan that once the clock is switched over to quartz movement the hands don't light.

Hmm thats interesting info, also i guess if the hands dont light up its not something im gonna want to do then. Ill shelf the clock fixing idea for later

The reason the hands won't light up is that the quartz conversion movement is plastic, and the hands need a metal ground to light up. JC does a special conversion that uses a metal housing I think. I can repair most anything EL on these cars, but not that clock! I sent mine in and just had the points replaced a few years ago to a local clock repair shop, works great now...just didn't want to spend the extra $$ to have JC do the quartz conversion.

remember guys...the 66 clocks are different than 67's......hands won't light up on a 67 clock....it uses a bulb instead of the 250v current

and yes...to regulate clock so it keeps decent time, turning the adjusting knob will do it for ya, but it has to be turned about 30 minutes worth either direction....a little 5 minute adjustment wont work
