Anyone here have catarack surgery done?

Glad to hear the left eye is done & your doing well...

Sounds pretty much just like my ol'Pops experiences too,
he had the second eye done 2 weeks after,
he has to use reading glasses for small print,
no more bifocals & regular glasses, that he wore for 30+ years
he needed a good set of sunglasses too, says he's way more sensitive to sunlight now
he had the polarized lenses installed in his old titanium frames...

Literally Night & Day improvements, but he's 30 years older than you too....

First left eye, they said I would be awake during the procedure, HA! Fell asleep, woke up, the nurse looked at me and told me to get and get dressed to go home. What so soon? Two years later the other eye. This time, I didn't fall asleep! Stayed awake the whole time. Didn't take long after getting out of the surgery, and they were making we get my clothes on again. Walked me out the door and said goodbye.

They are better than I have ever seen. No more contacts to fool and close to 20/20. Only thing I will warning you about is don't get the more expensive lenses that they may offer. My cousin did because they are suppose to be much clearer. He now has glaucoma. Time frame was five years ago for the first one.

I had Lasik to correct nearsightedness.

I had that too, in my thirties. It was very annoying to not be to able blink for about 5min each eye when the doctor was busy on them. Then I had to use a sleeping pill and goggles taped to my face they told me to give the eyes a good 6 hours rest.

The next day it was a relevation to notice that everything was nearer and bigger. What an improvement. Of course, two decades after Lasik I have to wear reading glassses now. Which ain't bad, but somehow they keep on breaking or get themselves lost.

GinoX, when you say "everything was nearer and bigger" did you require any adjustment time for doing ordinary things, like walking down a flight of stairs or driving? How much of a difference was there in observed size?

No, but I think the Rincoln needed some work recently.

did you require any adjustment time for doing ordinary things, like walking down a flight of stairs or driving?

Yup, relatively long time for those things, my distance etc. judgement had gone haywire a bit. The ophthalmologist recommended the occupational health doctor to give me three "disability" days as my job was working computer hardware and such. And/or 7 before any driving.

My wife just had both eyes done over a two week period. No problems other than headache from pressure on the eye the evening after surgery. Sees great out of both eyes now.

Got the 2nd eye done today. It appears all went well.

Nope, that is the "oh, your insurance will only cover 40% of the procedure, but we can still help you!" picture.

Best thing you can do for your eyes and the simplist of procedures. It takes a matter of minutes to have done. If you are scared, you will wonder why you didn't get it done sooner. Probably 95% successful. Get a Dr. that keeps up on the latest information , and has done many many of them.........................MO

It's been 5+ years since mine were done & I have no regrets and have had zero problems. The only thing that I can say is that my eyes are more sensitive to bright sunlight (even bright cloud-light) than before, but that's what sunglasses are for.

My mother had such an operation. She said it was a very unpleasant operation.

Had mine done 4 weeks ago and it was neither pleasant nor unpleasant. Kinda like having your teeth cleaned, depends on the skill of the one doing it.

I have had eight procedures on my eyes. The cataract surgeries were the first. The first eye got so bad that it was like trying to look thru wax paper. Huge improvement. I had my doc put in a nearsighted lens, i was still working and needed to wear safety glasses in the shop, and i was used to excellent close-up vision i then had put off the second cat surgery. Bad idea.
All of a sudden , the world was a black and white checker board. I went to my cat surgeon, he sent me to a retina specialist IMMEDIATELY for a retina tear. Walk in past ten people at the ret spec, in a chair getting lazered in five minutes, but i couldnt see with either eye. Immediately scheduled the other cat surgery.
Since, i have had two torn retina, two YAG lazer surgeries, a detached retina (a real pain in the ***, tho not in the eye, much worse than
just a tear) that required two physical surgeries to correct, and it is still not right, the focal length is off.
I find myself with one eye closed most of the time.
My cat surgeon is excellent, but you never know what your personal reaction to surgery is going to be.

My friend had his done years ago.
His only complaint was his belt was buckled in a different hole, and the surgical team was all smiles when he woke up.
