Anyone know the size of the throttle plate to shaft machine screws on 1966 Carter AFBs?

I’ve seen 6-32 and 10-24. I have doubts about 10-24 but it sounds like there could have been a change between early and late Carter AFBs. But I’m not sure what’s considered early.

I think they're #6-32 X 3/8"
I bought screws from this place Screws | Aircraft Spruce ® in 2017 when I needed some. I bought a few different ones to get the right ones, but I don't remember exactly which ones I used.

If you are going to remove factory screws......make sure you grind off the staked end first. Without removing the staking, you will likely snap off the screw in the shaft. Use Loctite on new screws.

They are indeed #6-32 brass flathead machine screws.
(And they snap off if you try and remove them)

Don, do you know the length? They must be longer than 3/8” since the shaft is 3/8”, unless it is thinned where the plates attach - I need to look at that.

I need to put bushings in for the primary plates on my 66 Hemi carbs as they are leaking out on the manifold. Quadrajet Parts makes an installation kit for 3/8” bushings. But their screws are incorrect for an AFB.

My Holleys throttle shafts were peeing on my crossram sent them to Woodruff carb. Was to chicken to do it and postponed for years, came out great. Price was very good, I'm cheap.

Fran, I’ve considered doing that. Main hesitation is every carb I send off comes back with screwed up jetting. My GTXs carb came back with crazy jets and rods - took some effort to find all the right stuff to put it back stock. I’ve even thought of stripping out all the jets and rods before sending them off.

Not a bad idea, doesn't need them. I only sent the base plate.

Are you sure the shafts are worn? Carter carbs, unlike the H stuff, use wide base plates that provide a huge surface area for the shafts...to reduce wear. Fuel exiting the body can come from the acc pump shot.

Shafts are very loose and even if the accelerator pump is contributing it is still running out the shafts with the air cleaner on.
