played the Clarenette when I was really young
my mom & 2 of my sisters played before me
It was/is a family heirloom
I totally hated it, didn't want to do it, I was forced to play it
I wanted to play the trumpet or the organ originally
we had a high dollar organ in the house, my mom was very musically inclined
when I was like 11-12ish,
I had a paper route, out on my Schwinn Pea Picker 5 speed dragster
& one of the 1st things I bought, was a Candy Apple Red Tesco (spelling)
w/dual-pickup w/wah wah bar, electric guitar & amp
from like JC Pennys or something
actually a $100 cheap POS, probably a $50 amp but I thought it was cool
I never took any lessons
I had an older guy (in his later teens) in the court where I lived
he played, he played very well & he would help me a bit
showed me a few cords & how to fret, hold my fingers & wah wah
(probably spelled all that **** wrong)
I would go out on the back porch & rock out to the radio
especially the canyon behind us (at my dads' place in Lafayette hills)
was a good reverb/sounding board
I'm sure the neighbors hate it too
It never really stuck, didn't keep my interest
once I got into gocarts minibikes motorcycles offroading,
later surfing & fast cars
I left all the musical stuff behind
