Did you wash that cap or was it that clean/dry upon disassembly?

Not that this applies to your situation, but there are press in zerks. But they’re not worth a damn, usually won’t stay in. I usually thread them for 1/4 28, don’t see how a u-joint cap would have enough meat to thread, even though I’ve seen u-joints on equipment with them, never had one apart to see how they’re fastened in.

Im just surprised to see how fast it destroyed those bearings. I greased everything recently so i know i was in there. When i took it apart there were no bearings left just a lot of metal dust.

Yeah, bad idea since grease guns can put out thousands of psi.

Mine are in the parking lot at the Carson Valley Inn. Knocked them off on the first parking bumper after the Hotchkis sway bar install.

For drag racing, I used U-joints with no grease fittings, supposed to be stronger without the hole drilled there I suppose (hole in the main body, that is).

That's a bit dry !
Never seen with fitting on cap sounds like a dive design a rock prob jumped up and took it off!
