As predicted 6 cylinder turbos are not the future.

Is the title accurate? I thought the F150 had a turbo 6.
Anyway the post got my attention since I recently bought an eco boost Maverick and I really like it, we will see how long it lasts, but it’s one of the funnier cars I’ve had. I’ve already modded it a little but no idea what the real gains are.
The wife bought one too. Jury is still out but I have an extended warranty just in case.

Ya, those turbo 4's are a POS. Yet my wife's Buick Envision runs like a scalded dog. It's a 2 L turbocharged Ecotech with AWD.
252/260 (hp and tq). Not bad for a little 4 banger. I like the performance but not looking forward to replacing the windmill when it goes bad (and it will)

That isn't a 4 cyl, it's a V6 ecoboost. The 4 cyl ones are in mustangs. At least what I've always seen. Even the engine pics look like a V type engine.

I thought the same. I never heard of a turbo 4 in a F150 but maybe I just never stumbled across that. Sounds like a bad idea though.

You are all correct. It is a 6 cylinder. F-150 doesn’t offer a 4 cylinder (yet). But the point is V8s are going to be a thing of the past. Everything is going to boosted smaller displacement engines.

Yeah. They were around back in the 80’s when I cruised my Charger. I thought they sounded like crap. I’d have rather had this. My brother’s car that he drove in that era. It sounded better. Just needs a big block that bolts right in.

I disagree. V8’s will always be available. Just for the sound alone. It’s the sound of America.

My 2015 Transit 3.5L ecoboost 390k, replaced the throttle body a couple times and exhaust manifolds once. 2023 has 120k issue free. My 202 F150 has 45k issue free. Maybe they should change oil once and a while

My daughter's 2016 F 150 has the turbo 3.5, over 80 k miles.
I have drove it, They will surprise you.

I rented a brand new Jeep wrangler rubicon recently It was the 4 cyl turbo. Engine noise was really annoying. Power was ok but I couldn’t deal with the engine noise.

Go for it. You don’t see those everyday. Made less than 5000 in its 2 year run. Stroked out Grand National 3800, V8 internals. Nice motor.

I've liked them since new. Drove a GNX in 87, turned the salesman green...couldn't convince Dad to buy it though (I had just gotten my license).

Last typhoon I looked at was in key west. It was ROUGH...and he wanted 25k for it. Not GN-crazy numbers but still more than that one was worth IMO.

Yep - to keep up with the GNs turbo six.

That thing was a BEAST. Local dealer has a Typhoon on the lot...I'm debating stopping by.... GN power, AWD...hmmm....
Yeah. I just cruised. I had the only 2nd gen Charger in town circa 1987. And 235 HP with a rework of the TH200 Chevette trans didn’t impress me then, and it certainly doesn’t now. The rear in those wasn’t up to any sticky tire either. But regardless of all that they sound like a 6 cylinder.

I had a '89 Turbo Trans Am for 20 years.
TTA engines came with Pontiac heads, to fit under the hood, but also flowed better. Also came with factory headers, handled better, etc. Faster 0-60 and quarter mile than anything else on the market.

Bought in 1997 with 30k miles, bone stock. Took it to the track on a scorching July day and ripped a 13.4, then a 13.3, and finally a 13.1.

I raced a brand new Corvette on the street, without even trying and much to my surprise, kept my door ahead of him the entire way.
He was beyond upset.

I threw everything at it, bigger turbo, injecters, throttle body, 3" exhaust sans cat, drag radials, routed the air filter outside the engine bay, etc, etc.
All bolt on or stuff I modified.

It quickly became too fast for the 4 wheel disc brakes.

I raced a friend multiple times on his crotch rocket and a bunch of his buddies on theirs, major highway, guard rails on both sides, kept the unwanteds away.

The car was in the pack every time, never last. We were laughing so much afterwards we almost didn't realize how stupid we were. Never did anything like that again.
However, the car pegged the 140 speedo with ease, in seconds, stayed steady, so in that moment it didn't seem so stupid.

Single 3" exhaust sounded awesome, even better, running the car up close on the passenger side to the big old galvanized guardrail, that turbo would eco something fierce.

The turbo Buicks were stupid fast out the box, tore up everything around, and are still crushing it.

All from a little V6.
