Anyone interested in getting F.A.S.T. Racing going in our part of the country? It and Pure Stock Racing seems to be pretty substanical on the East coast but nothing happening out here.

I have posted this on a couple of Mopar sites and invite you to copy and paste this on others if you want to get the word out. Don't just keep it just Mopar, get the word out to your Chevy and Ford buddies that you would like to challenge to a race. If you are interested in contacting me about this grassroots endeavor DON'T respond to me in this post but rather email me at: darryl@sedonarental.com

For those of you that haven't heard of it, here is the story. it stands for Factory Appearing Stock Tire, (F.A.S.T.) The idea is that you can take your show poodle and build the engine, trans, rear end to a non-stock configuration as long as the outward appearence is retained. This means you could compete in an OEM judged event in the morning and race it turning times with some of the big boys the same afternoon. The limiting factor is that you have to use a factory appearing stock tire. The playing field is leveled some what to allow for a maximum size of I believe is G70 X 15" tires so the guys with older cars that would have come with 7.35 X 14" are not at a disadvantage.

I am just now getting back to sactioned racing and am completely out of the loop with regards to track politics. I assume we would need a sponsor or two for this venue but really don't know for sure. I would be willing to help were I can.

Here is some more info on F.A.S.T. Racing

It seems like a limited program like this would be tough in our part of the world because of the wide spread between population bases. That's why the back east programs can work.
Any kind of Stock/Super Stock combo races never seem to really make it. N/SS is a dead player out here, and thrives east of the Mississippi. High dollar bracket races seem to die off after a few brave souls put one on. (with the exception of the November Vegas bracket race).
It seems like unless it's a Super Comp/Gas/Street program put on by an association it goes nowhere.

While I don't have a car for it (yet) I'd be interested in getting a F.A.S.T. series going out here. If I could get rid of my Altered I'd sure start looking for a car if there was a series for it ---count me in. As for it not being too successful around here, my take on that is that it's the tracks & more a marketing issue. With the amount of musclecar collectors around here, I think if you gave them a viable venue to run their cars only against one another, like F.A.S.T. does, you'd get a show.
The problem, as I see it, here is the tracks are geared TOO much for S/G, S/C type competition and don't know there's aworld out there beside them, "Pinks", PSCA,etc.
My recommendation is get a list of interested people, meet to confirm the groups goal & understanding of the rules (remember alot of these guys will be first-timers), then start campaiging for race sponsorship & track usage

Spoke to a few guys here last weekend ----they all agreed with me on getting a F.A.S.T. series going but agree you'd need the tracks support MORE than anything else & that could cause a problem as there'd be no incentive for them to support it right now.
