backup/neutral safety switch question 1968 Charger

Not sure if this has been beat to death but I picked up an aftermarket TCI outlaw floor shifter for my '68 Charger. I have a 383BB with 727 auto. I see the neutral safety switch threaded into the side of the transmission with the wire leading back up into the engine compartment. My question is, do I need to install the backup/neutral safety switch that came with the new shifter? As I understand it, I would only need to worry about hooking up the backup lights to my new shifter switch because the neutral safety switch is a mechanical part of the transmission. Is that correct? If so, how do I hook up my backup lights to my new console shifter? Which wire goes where on the switch? Any help or info is appreciated! Thanks!

The NSS in the tranny should work fine with that or any shifter, both with the reverse circuit and the neutral safety circuit.

I only saw one wire coming out of the NSS from the transmission. Currently there is a column shift in the car. I'm converting from column shift to floor shifter. Does that mean I can disregard the NSS with the new shifter and simply install the backup switch to the new floor shifter? isn't there a wire at the bottom of the steering column that I need to run to the new shifter for the backup lights to work once I pull out the column shift steering column? I'm also replacing the steering column with a console shift version.

the backup light switch is on the column,check your wiring diagram to find it.just hook that to the new floor shifter.the switch on the trans is mechancal and is just the neutral safety switch.

I'm sorry about that, I thought the last year of the 1 wire was 67. Yeah, just use the reverse switch on the shifter, the neutral safety on the tranny should still work.
