Hey guy's,My bud is a hardcore Mopar guy but has a 91 Camaro(305 tuned port) left to him when his Brother past do to Cancer. Time has past and he has now decided to Paint the car and get it on the road.
It was very well taken care of by his brother but It's had a history of this starting one day then not the next.
The car has a new and properly adjusted ignition switch and New batt. We cleaned all the grounds and wire connectors.
When you hit the key nothing happens at all,the Batt has 12 volts and holds steady when hitting the key...
I have 12 volts at the solenoid when hitting the key as well as on the main power wire to the solenoid. So I thought I had a worn out Solenoid...Heres the kicker, I jumped the posts and the car started right up....Let it run for 10 min or so and shut it down, hit the key and it started back up so I tried it a few more times it worked fine..I tried it in park and neutral and then it wouldn't start..So I thought it was the Neutral safety switch but it's fine, now the car will not turn over again. We have tried the old tap the starter with a hammer trick but it's never helped.Any suggestions?

Starter has a dead spot in it . I'd replace the whole starter . If that doesn't work . Then look for a fusible inline link . They'll give ya fits like that too .

If the starter had a dead spot the solenoid would still actuate,it might not engage the starter motor it self but it would click and send power to the starter motor and attempt to turn the starter. We took out the starter yesterday and did a bench test and it worked fine.Put it back in the car and no go lol.I thought it might have a bad ground so I forced a new ground with jumper cables but it didn't help. The Fusible links are all fine as I have power at the solenoid.Thank's :)

A popular trick with the GM crowd is to bypass the GM starter solenoid and add a Ford-style/divorced solenoid. Many folks experience either a solenoid that misbehaves from heat or just misbehaves by itself. I put a brand new starter & solenoid on a SBC I had and the solenoid was junk - it failed on me the very next day. I fabbed up a bypass setup (or you can buy one from Summit Racing http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G1750/ or http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PRF-30203/ ) that evening and never had another problem.

I've owned several GM vehicles (or vehicles with GM motors) and have done the bypass on at least three of them. Others have never had a problem with them. It's hit or miss from my experience.

Hey that's a great idea and way cheeper....I did it on my John Deere but never thought of it for a car or truck...Thank's Manifold :)
