Barn Find Daytona... Couldn't Disagree More!

I agree he should restore it. But a legitimate barn find is way cool. Whether it's a car, truck, tractor or some other valuable or cool antique. I've spent many hours trolling old buildings (with permission) and seen some cool stuff. Never a wing car.
To say that they were left to rot isn't accurate. Storing something and forgetting about is way better than leaving it outside to rot.

You recognize that superbird in pieces in the wing car forum. The one that you drove by many times as well as all of the other cars that the man was letting rot outdoors.
Just imagine if they only had a roof over them for all those years. They would be in good shape and Somebody would be restoring them right now instead of scrapping them.
I have a barn full of Old vehicles that I found in other barns. Maybe I will get to them, maybe not. But they are certainly not rotting away. They are in suspended animation. :D
This is personal opinion, and please label it as such, but the only thing I find cool about barn finds is finding them. Finding a car that's been neglected, forgotten, and lost to the world and bringing it back into the fold is cool... but keeping it neglected is very un-cool.

It's his car now to do with as he pleases. I do think it is an interesting idea to keep it as is...but I am not a collector. I like to drive em and work on em so I would clean it up and drive.

Or I would set it in my yard, sit on my porch and tell everyone who asks to buy it that I plan on fixing it up someday lmao!!
And that's what really grates me about guys like this. They legitimize the "I'm Gonna Get Around To It Someday" crowd. I'm all for folks doing what they want with their property, but I'm getting really tired of this crowd, especially over the past seven years or so.

I've lost track of the folks I've talked to who have a deteriorating car on their property, and they get all haughty if you even ask about it because A: they are sure that's a million-dollar car they've got because their cousin Ernie done said so, and they're tired of low ballers trying to rip them off, or B: I'm gonna get around to it someday." Then they finally decide they want to get rid of the car, they get in touch with me, and I tell them "sorry, but your car is a rusted out POS now and nobody is gonna pay your price."

I just went through this with a guy in GA. He had a decent 73 Roadrunner and a big case of the "I'm gonna's...". That car sits in his back yard for four years and goes from a decent project to a rusted POS. Then he calls me and says "You can have it for eight grand" and I just have to laugh. When I tell him he needs to part it out, he goes into the "You're trying to rip me off" speech. Then I see it on CL for $9,000, then $8,000, then $5,000. Then it disappears once he gets to $1,000 OBO. So I'm guessing he probably sold it for $300 or so, what it was actually worth, and he's still mad as Hell... not at himself, but at all of us for screwing him over.

So these pinheads will look at this story in Hot Rod and think "See... my classic is worth even more money of I leave it decaying in the backyard 'cause it's only original once." Then when they do go to collect their fortune and find out all they got is $300 in scrap value, it will all be our fault once again. :(

IMO what the is wrong with keeping a car on pavement under a roof out of the elements for generations? A damn sight Better than outside.
If this guys Superbird wasn't shedded. (Chances are it wasn't an actual barn but just a building of some sort, but the term could used loosely I'm not that finicky) what shape would it be in now? It's a 50/50 shot it would be in pieces. At least the previous owners had the foresight to put a roof over the damn thing before the died or whatever. Unlike the car in the Superbird forum. I'm sure the new owner will have a nice heated garage for it.
Decades ago when the car was mothballed, wing cars were not the six figure item that they are today. So I forgive previous owner.
I just find your original post a bit assuming to those who have older vehicles and keep them stored in older out buildings hoping to one day restore.

For the guys who don't like clicking on links, here is what they are talking about.

I have a friend who has a 69 Runner post. Number matching with original 383 and 4 sp
Only problem is it's been sitting outside in a fencerow since 1974. Motor stuck.crank most likely bad not to mention all panels rusted and trunk pan non-existent interior shredded from decades of rodents.
I offered him 2k for it He thought I was trying to **** him.
He wants 8k. I told him it would take 40k+ to restore it and never be worth more than 30k if it was even restorable.
Needless to say he still has it.
I offered to buy it 15 years ago and his dad wouldn't sell it. Sad.
I told his dad many times to take a log chain and pull the damn thing indoors at least. Never happened

You're very impressed with yourself. But like the dr who bought the Daytona, who cares !! And fyi, I sold my bird and bought a convertible. You're not as astute as you think. :icon_fU:
Very childish but what more could I expect. No where near impressed of myself but when you talk about an area I have light-years of experience above you than so be it. Man you give the armpit of America a bad name indeed, lol.

Good for you on the purchase and sale at least you admitted you were an idiot and took a very ASTUTE members advice, lol..

If you want to carry this on please pm me. Looking forward to it if your man enough!

Money, money, money.

I think the question is moot.
The car isn't going to get driven either way.
Restored it would just be another trailer queen.

The above question has been asked about many historical vehicles.
Rhetorically speaking, who would restore this?

Would there be a difference in usage between a restored trailer Queen vs the unrestored state of this car?

I see this Trailer Queen comment a lot and really have to chuckle. It is dig phrase that people like to use to poke others.

Btw what is wrong with a trailer Queen and why do people got so butt hurt over them?

These people do nothing to you but simply restore their car the way they want it....

Looks like a good many of those bullets only dented the metal, which certainly wouldn't be the case on today's cars.

Seen that car in person many times in San Antonio.....That indeed was some thick high carbon steel..

To the previous poster about this car...It did have a minimal restoration......

I did not use the term as a pejorative.
I used it as an expedient to simply get the thought across in a single sentence.
Like "hangar queen".
We do that in communication.
Brevity is the soul of wit.
No one like reading a long winded interweb opinion post from a nobody.
I also use the term "lawn chair crowd" to talk about car shows.
If the show fits the guilty dog will bark.

That is why I scan quickly over yours....

Hmm,
I certainly do not know what to say on this one Bru!
I can not seem to come to a decision.
On one "side of the coin" it is his and he can do what he wants with it....
The "other side of the coin" to me is: Such a waste, it would have a much greater impact on the American/World car market to fully restore this magnificent piece of Automobile History than to leave it as a Barn find....

PM you? You're an egotistical moron and any conversation with you is a waste of time.
I have no further interest in your noise.
