Battery disconnect

I bought a American made battery disconnect switch, the kind that goes on the batt terminal, you turn the knob the batt is disconnected. I did not care for that feature as there is a small area making contact. Hence i thought heat build up, but i could be wrong. The other thing is one terminal is so small and my batt cable wont compress that small. The part that goes on the actually terminal needed to be opened a lot. I have the proper pliers but even though i was careful i cracked the switch. I didn't pay much money, but the product was junk.
Ok so what do some of you use besides just taking the terminal itself on and off the battery. Thanks
 
I’m thinking of going back to standard terminals. I have the thread on clamp at present but sometimes it doesn’t make full contact and can’t wont start just throws solenoid. I have to get out and reseat the connection.

But if a pain in the *** when your looking to get going. Have to get out and reseat and may have to do that 1-2 times.

Been better since I sanded the terminals to ensure they are flat
 
Race car switch hidden under the battery box in trunk! You can access from under the car, i drilled a hole and have handle sticking out under car. Can do the same if you leaving battery up front.
 
Were trying to put it on the positive terminal? The positive is larger diameter. We use these quite often at Chrysler engineer on mule cars that have battery draw. As long as they're screwed down good and tight they work without issue. I have seen 2 different brands. Never looked where they were made. One looks beefier, but both work.

I use a battery disconnet switch but it's more for trunk mounted batteries but could be mounted up front. Mine has a plastic key which is nice since it adds more work for any would be thief.
 
I use them on all of my collector vehicles. Never had a problem. You are attempting to put them on the negative post aren't you?
 
I have one of these on a tractor. The center part carries all the current and kept burning out. I removed the white plastic piece and completely disconnect every time I shut the tractor off. With the plastic part gone, the entire surface touches and haven't had any more problems. It's a little more work but it still can be reconnected without any tools.
 
Negative terminal on mine. It works well just have to make sure it sitting correctly. I think someone tried to clamp a wire in mine. Seen some wire strands there when I was tidying it up. This may have been why it wasn’t sitting fully flush at times
 
Do you have a disconnect so it won't get stolen or because of battery drain off.

Yep i have one and when turn off remove the key that way you always got it.
 
Battery disconnect switch in the trunk. Cuts all power and serves as an anti-theft device.

Just the blade type. Split second to disconnect.
Under the hood, some people have disconnects on the positive and other people have them on the negative. Can anybody give me the reason which terminal is correct or not, please, thank you.

They are designed for the negative post. Also the side that you reattach your cable to is the smaller size and won't work for the positive cable.
