We had several machines from WWII ships at the shop where I used to work......great pics!! Even had a L&S 25" lathe like the one in the pic. Didn't like running it as the controls were slung too low. Hard on the back.

my pop was a "machinist's mate" on a destroyer in the south pacific WWII

Are the last few pics of a torpedo room?
The very last group is inside the 16 inch gun turret room. Lots going on in there very cramped. I took some pictures through protective glass that shows how the projectiles were brought up from several decks down. What looks like a torpedo are the 16 inch diameter projectiles that are enormous and I believe the guide said can hit a football field area from 23 miles out. The long barrels are the gun barrels.
The other gun room was the small cramped 5 inch dual gun. Hot as can be in there.

other than jury duty, or getting medi-vacced; that's the only reason to set foot in Camden
I'm no fan of Camden, but the police presence on the entire route to the sea port is obvious. The route is kept clean and presentable, no bums no trash.

She's a Buggun, alright!!! Those 16-inchers could put a thumpin on the opposition when fired. I've been to the Alabama, North Carolina, Arizona Memorial, and Iowa. All are something to see in person. Thanks for sharing...cr8crshr/Bill:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::usflag::usflag::usflag:

The machine rooms were pretty amazing, They could repair or fabricate most anything that could fail or break. they could even rewire electric motors. They carried scrap steel to make repairs. The threading machines could make any screw or bolt or thread large diameter piping.

I did a tour of BB-63 in Pearl Harbor a few years back. I was amazed at the wall thickness of the forward control way
and hatches. Also the fire control for the 16" guns. G.E. Turbines stuck down in the engine room, but too much asbestos
in there for them to let us explore. Very impressive.

Full house machine shop.....

Looks like you had a great day.
Do they still have former crew as tour guides?

Did an overnight outing with the Cub Scouts when my son was young.
Too damn hot in the 3 high racks below deck so we crashed topside under the 16's.
I loved it, wife hated it (I told her to stay home!)
Thanks for sharing.

Pretty cool they let you photo a bunch of the stuff you did
full access tour is seems...
Even if it's older tech...
