Got a smokin deal on 1.5 sets of 15x7 and 15x8 magnum 500's last weekend. 4 of them with BFG radial t/a's and two with mickey thompson racing slicks. There is a LOT of tread left on the radial t/a's but i noticed the 275 back tires have some chunks of rubber missing on the tread. The guy i bought them from had a 72 Challenger and from the looks of it, he does drag racing. I haven't looked for a date code yet and they don't appear to be dry rotted. I bought them for the rims anyways so no big loss if the tires turn out to be junk. My question is, is it possible for burnouts to tear chunks of rubber off the tread?

Yup: I had some 40 year old Polyglas GT's on my Charger and I did a burnout and that's what happened to them too. So I'd burn em to the ground and put newbies on to drive on, they've had their day and it's behind them.

Run'em. They will be fine. It is just from doing the burnouts.
