Ok so here is what my tranny is and isn't doing.

Not doing kicking down when I hit the gas. Does not stretch the gears out like it should at all so it short shifts. ( yes I have adjusted the linkage all the way).

What it is doing is when I go from first to second it feels like you let of the gas hit the brake then it grabs second.

Slams it's self into 3rd gear and as cruising at about 50mph you can feel the car kinda go in and out of gear like it's slipping. ( no rpm change during this)

Anything you guys think I can do myself or will it just need an over haul with a nice shift kit?

i would swap out the valve body with one from a working trans to see if that fixes it first. see if some guy in your neck of the woods has one lying around. its an easy swap to do.. drop the pan, remove shifter/throttle pressure levers, remove the 10 7/16" bolts, remove park rod, drop valve body, and grab the accumulator piston and spring. reinstall in opposite order.

Well I took her to a tranny shop and indeed tranny has to come out for a rebuild. The shop is going to r&r and rebuild with a stage 2 with shift kit for only $550! And warranty it for 3 1/2 years!!

that is an awesome deal.. NOW IF YOU HAVE A NUMBERS MATCHING TRANSMISSION.. MAKE SURE THEY DONT JUST USE YOURS AS A CORE AND REPLACE IT WITH SOME REMAN'D TRANS THAT THEY PUT A SHIFT KIT IN!!!

I have seen a tranny shop do this before... owner was IRATE to say the least

The guys said I could be there during the tear down and build so I understand how a tranny works and do it myself one day.

Do it!

Take them up on it! That is how I learned to rebuild trannies back in 1978...a friend of mine tore apart my transmission(turbo 350) right in front of my eyes, told me what to look for, showed me why it wasn't working, and answered all my questions while doing it. Six months later he asked if I would rebuild his trans out of his 1967 Pontiac Bonneville because he was too busy, it was only the 4th one I had rebuilt since he showed me how....I did his for the price of the parts only!
