Anyone have a clue what would cause a brake booster to only work part of the time? I recently pulled my axles to swap gears and after bleeding the brakes the booster is hit and miss? I've got a really nice firm pedal but sometimes I can stop the car abruptly with ease other times I have to push like bloody hell!

Today I'll rig up a vacuum gauge to my windshield and see what that tells me but if it's bad I'm going hydroboost.

I would think some sort of vacuum deficiency.
If the bellows is intact and working and there's good vacuum, then the booster works.
No?
Quick video on troubleshooting boosters. Skip to like the 4:00 minute mark for tests.

Your brakes worked fine before swapping axles? So maybe your not completely bled. Or you had a casualty to booster coincidental with swapping axles??

On my 68 Ford Galaxie with 4 wheel GM style disks, I had a very similar issue. Ended up being the integral parking brake was out of adjustment and intermittently took more pedal travel for the pads to make contact with the rotors. Not sure if this applies to your system or not.
