hello FBBO i need some help. i have a 74 satellite and the turn signals, brake light do not work but the tail lights and flashers do. i put new lights in the sockets and checked the grounds. can some tell me how to find and fix the problem please. thanks for the help

Sounds like your directional (turn signal) switch is shot. Check the Brown and Dark Green wires coming from your direction switch harness towards the bottom of your steering column, make sure they have power when you apply the brake or flip a turn signal. If they don't, your directional switch is Junk.

Good Luck

What he said. Your brake lights run through the turn signal switch. If you've never noticed, it's your brake lights that flash when the signal is on.

i put in a brand new turn signal switch about three weeks ago. the turn signals did work for a week after i put the new switch in.

Did you buy that useless junk one from Paddock??? OOOppppsss! was I supposed to say that?

In that case....I would still check the wires going out. How is your harness connection? It's quite often your two problems work hand in hand when you have a bad turn signal switch.

If you want to start checking seperate components, first check your brake switch located at the top of your brake pedal arm. You should get a hot reading when your pedal is pressed, move on to the turn signals from there.

I would definitly concentrate on your turn signal switch first.

i would say its in the switch i bought one from my local auto parts store for like $20 but i had to modify it to make it work first off the 4 metal prongs were to long so i had to cut them down then they didnt make contact with the other side so i had to bend them out a little now it all works great

Try this: While the steering wheel is still removed and new signal switch is installed. Have someone to watch the rear of car or place a mirror back there. Tighten the signal switch a little at a time and check the brakes lights each time you tighten the signal switch. There is a sweet spot for these switches as I have learned. If it is too tight, something will not work (either a brake light(s) or a turn signal light(s). Chances are that if you get the brake lights working correctly then the signal lights will be right. I hope this helps!
