I bought a 74 Satellite a couple weeks ago and the only thing really keeping it off the road right now is I have no brake lights. I had to tear the engine wiring harness out and rebuild it already, so while I was doing that, I had a buddy pull the gauge cluster out and see what the wiring looked like in there. Nothing was hooked up. We got most everything hooked up except the brake switch. The previous owner installed a new brake switch, but didn't hook it up and I'm not completely sure if it's even the right switch. Does anybody have a pic of the wiring going to it and of the switch itself? I have all running and turn signal lights right now. I just want to know what goes where before I pull the whole dash harness and rebuild it. Also if anybody has a wiring diagram better than a haynes manual that would be great. I've studied 2 different diagrams and have gotten nowhere. When hitting the brake with the switch hooked up by guessing I have no voltage at the light.

use a test light to see if you have power to one of the wires at switch...if not, start checking the wire back to the fuse block....could be simple as a blown fuse or rusty connection

Hello
I have a factory service manual that has 30 plus pages of wiring diagrams in it. I can take a pic of my switch tomorrow and could give you some info on wiring when I get to work. If interested LMK

power arrives with a pink wire ( batt source so is constant ), then runs to steering column turning switch throught a white wire, individual female spade terminals.

this is the original switch, and its mounted on a straight bracket

Here is what it looks like installed, this is my 73 RR.

FYI, the brake wiring goes through the turn signal switch. The rear brake and signal lights are the same elements. The brake wiring goes through the turn signal switch so that your signal will still flash on one side while the brakes are applied.

So I forgot to mention something. This car is a factory cruise control car. I'm guessing that means the switch is going to be different so that the cruise control can be cancelled with the tap of the brake pedal right? Unfortunately the only parts I have for the cruise is the stock off the steering column.

Here are some wiring diagrams to check out. Check the fuses.

That's what I thought. I've checked the fuses, and made sure everything is plugged in right. The switch is new or supposedly (it looks like it). I have nothing still. The body harness to the rear looks fine. I'm about ready to pull the whole dash harness out and go through it wire by wire, plug by plug like I did the engine harness.

So here is the wiring diagrams and pictures for the speed control unit. These include the wiring of the break switch and all the wires to check:

Maybe these will help, Dennis

Thanks everyone. Got it figured out. Turns out it was a bad connection at the switch, just didn't see it.

This is correct and it will drive you nuts if the wireing has been dis-connected.............................MO

just for info here..on cars with cruise control switch, the brake light part makes contact when pedal is pushed, and the cruise control part "breaks" contact when pedal is pushed. The cruise control portion is a "NC" or normally closed switch
