Hi all. Happy 4th.

I was wondering if there are any owners of '62-'65 B bodies who have successfully
used a Lokar or similar trans kickdown cable on a cable shift TF 727. I know they
originally used a rod setup for kick down purposes but since I have a Lokar kick down
cable available I was hoping to be able to save having to hunt up a kick down rod.

The cable kick downs work great if you want to get rid of clutter from the bellcrank and rods that are factory on older cars. Installing them is much easier with Holley carbs as most of them lend themselves to the side brackets on Holley style carbs. I use a Bouchillon cable but the Lokar is similar in operation but a bit different for installation brackets etc. I have a 65 that uses one and I'm really pleased. There are two essential settings that have to be adhered to. The pivot point at the trans lever and carb have to have identical arcs, that is to say, from the center of the swing pivots to the center of the cable attachment points have to be the same. One is measured from the center of the carb throttle shaft out to the cable pivot, the other from the center of the tranny shaft out to the cable pivot attachment point. The other setup requires having enough travel in the cable to advance the tranny lever completely without affecting "wide open throttle" or idle. Obviously you need some slack in the cable to achieve this but not so much that the tranny doesn't operate properly. With OE rods, this is accomplished by the long slot in the flat of the rod and a spring.

Thanks for the reply and advice. I had used a Bouchillon on a '65 Coronet I had
but was hoping to save some $$$$ and use the Lokar I all ready had. Sounds like it's doable.
