This is a photo from a 73 Charger for sale on Craigs for 2500. Looks like it needs some work and the seller doesn't list too much info. The speedo in the car goes up to 150 so I figure it has a big block but don't know. chargervin.jpg

Maybe now.

I didn't think a 150mph speedo would come with a 318 equipped car. I suppose someone could have swapped it but why if you didn't change the engine?

Better question for the 71-74 guys but I would guess it was standard, and who's to say a 318 can't go 150 mph? I done it in one ;) That car looks like all it needs i a good cleaning and some carpet and a headliner and it would be a great ride.

I see rust everywhere on that car, the rear quarters and the trunk lid are rusted through, even the screws on the interior along with the turn signal arm and rearview mirror are rusted. Looks like the upper door and upper rear panels have some sag in them which means its either a flood car or got wet or maybe that's just what happens on the east coast. I would look elsewhere, unless you got a big budget for restoring it. I wouldn't offer more then $500 for it. Just my 2 cents.

Top row= two digit "Gate" and three digit "Base" number then a six digit assembly number. All numbers are related to producing the body in white.

The rest are three digit codes for the engine, axle and transmission assemblies.

Black vinyl top on a black car with a black interior. 318 automatic with air.

According to the data book, the 120 MPH speedo should have been standard.

That looks like a pretty complete car and I have seen worse going for that price and higher. If it were me, I'd go for it if everything checks out. Look for frame rot around the K-member mounting locations (especially the drivers side), around the hood hinges, cowl to firewall seam, and where the door hinges bolt to the body leading down to the rockers. Try putting 2k in his face and see if he moves on it.
