Hi. Someone is interested in buying the 8 3/4 rear from a 63 fury I have. I was curious about what the value is because I have no clue. Thank you

A lot of the value is determined by the center. Case? Gears? Sure grip? Also condition. $100 to $600.

Yes entire rear. It's a non posi.

It's worth what somebody is willing to part with for it. A non sure-grip (posi?! grrr... Chev term) splined drum rear is not exactly highly desirable...

I have one for my 63 Max Wedge Clone
It is a 3:90
But, the 63s had the Tapered axels with the nut on the end.
Smaller pinion, 1-3/8" small stem pinion. otherwise known as the 741

I paid $400 for mine because it is a Sure grip, form a 63 Maxie car

REMEMBER: Sure Grip is the Chrysler name for a limited slip differential.

"Posi-Traction" is a trademarked GM term for limited slip, NOT a "universal" term.

A non-SG '63 8-3/4" rear with ANY gearing might bring you $200 - $300 on a good day, assuming it is ALL good, including brakes.

The trade names for "limited slip" diffs below - Limited Slip IS the universal term, BTW...

I can't imagine a tapered 8-3/4 is worth much. I figured I'd have to bring mine to the scrap yard when (if) I swap it out for a late '60s one doubting anyone would want it.
I paid a good buck for the late '60s rear I have, but the value is in the 489 SG case. If I could find a 741 or 742 SG case, I'd buy it and I'd probably leave the rearend in my '64, saving the late '60s rear for a future project.

Was going to make trophies from it but just couldn't, so its is still a trip hazard in the back of Le Cassa de Carro. Scrap iron isn't worth hauling ... Store it or art it.

It amazes me how people poo poo the tapered axle rear. Unless you're going to do serious racing it is plenty strong for the street. Also, with the brake conversion its just as easy to maintain as the later rears. But people still swap them out for a rear that very often doesn't fit right and requires odd ball back spacing for clearance.

By the way.... the link to the "Crankshaft Coalition" article is no longer good. I am aware that posi is a chevy term. However if you say posi to any car guy, they know what you're talking about. Not everyone is familiar with the other names. I sold it for 50 bucks. Thanks everyone
