Can you put axles from a 489 case into a 742 case?

Yes, it is fine as long as they both have the same spline count.

Yes, 741, 742, and 489 all have the same axle spline count.

Unless it's an after market carrier. I have an aftermarket 35 spline 8-3/4 in my Roached Runner with 4:88's. Also have 40 spline axles in my Challenger with 4:10's.

Agree, was referring to factory carriers.

I’ve swapped all the factory case numbers in the same housing with no issues as previously mentioned.
