Car Lift Fails, I call idiot bullshit on most of these, but thoughts?

in a hurry, not paying attention to details etc.
 
wow-that's pretty ugly!! I did notice most of the dilemma's were on 2 post lifts-I guess idiots and 2 post lifts are made for each other!

Well I am no idiot, but have been pondering a lift. My garage is tall enough unlike most so I am lucky in that regard. I grew up with in the floor/ground lifts in my dads dealerships both twin and single post. Seems like you dont see too many of those in ground units any more. None the less I think lift incidents don't depend too much on the inground vs above ground configuration (unless the above ground post rips loose from the floor).

In the end I'm hoping this threads yields conversation about lift types pros / cons etc. I'm pondering a lift and wondering what everyone else thinks about the options.
 
To each their own but I am not a fan of the two post lifts. Our shop lift is a 4 post bend pack 9000 , I think with any of them keeping them maintained is the key to safety .
Two posts are prob ok as long as you know what your bolting down to as far as concrete goes, thickness , rebar or not ect.

Being an engineer, this is one of the most important aspects of a two post.
 
Looks like the Chevy pickup was so rusty that it just fell in half. I saw a guy try to lift an old Mustang with an in floor hydraulic lift and the Mustang was so rusted out that the lift bent the subframe up about a foot before he stopped. Less headroom after that.
 
#2 was a Dodge truck, #15 a Toyota, which one was the Chevy that bent?
 
I worked in a oil/tire garage in college. I once saw a late 60s/early 70s caddy with its nose about 15 feet in the air. It was so long they couldn't center it on the 2 post lift. They swung the arms out to the right places but something happened (I think a tire was removed) that cause the front to lift. Once it lifted the rear arms swing forward and left it with the nose at the roof and the tail on the ground. I remember walking back and saw the nose above the other equipment through the window and thinking that someone was going to be in trouble. It took a couple floor jacks under the rear to relieve enough tension to release the locks so it could be lowered. Ah good times.
