I just picked up a 73 Charger last week. The charging system is not working. It has a new voltage regulator and alternator. It has a 1978 440 in it currently. Where else should I be looking? I haven't really done any diagnosing with it. This is my first time working with an old Mopar. I'm coming from working on 85 Shelby Chargers and old aircooled VWs. Any help would be much appreciated!

The bulk head connectors on the firewall are common problem area's.

What are your voltage readings @ the battery, both running and not running?
How about at the stud on the back of the alternator?

Make sure you have a good ground at the firewall (V/R) and alternator.

Nice car! It always helps to positively identify the type of alternator, voltage regulator, ignition module, etc. and make a sketch of how it's wired up. I never assume anything. Then compare to posted schematics above. In Schematic A the battery appears to be grounded to the body, but where is it on your car? Also, how is your engine grounded? I'm more familiar with pre-1970 where battery is grounded to engine, and engine to firewall. Good luck.
